Motor vehicles these days have many features but not all of them are useful to many people. To a boy racer engine power is important but to a Mum with young children safety is much more important than power.

Here are some of the things you may want to consider:

1. Safety, ie air bags ABS braking, side intrusion bars,
2. Fuel Economy,
3. Engine size and power output,
4. Size ie number of passenger seats, boot space,
5. Esthetics, the look of the vehicle, including colour, alloy wheels etc,
6. Interior comfort and look.
7. Special features.
   
8. Condition, has it been looked after?
   

Cheapest is usually not the best! Know approximately how much you want to invest in a vehicle but remember it does get emotional the closer you get to a purchase, so know your limits.

Modern cars today are very reliable and you can reasonably expect to get up to and beyond150000Km without too much in the way of repairs with regular servicing being your primary costs.

If you are not mechanically minded then get a professional independent person to inspect the car before you sign anything, it is a small investment.

Be comfortable with both the company you are dealing with, and the sales person.
